Vacancy for Assistant Veterinary Surgeon – July 2010Since Aldington Equine Vets was founded in January 2005, we have gradually expanded and we are continuing to register new clients each month. One of our full time assistants, Juliette Condie, has decided to leave the practice to fulfill an ambition to travel the world. We are now looking for an full time vet to joint our team as a clinical supervisor to help to manage the clinical side of the business by supervising the other assistants, formulating clinical protocols and ensuring we are making best use of equipment, facilities and veterinary time and providing the best of care for all our patients. We operate a mainly ambulatory service but we have stabling for inpatients, an examination room with stocks, trotting-up areas and an arena at our practice premises. All visits are by timed appointment and each vet is largely responsible for organising their own working day. All vets carry laptop computers running the practice management software (ezVetPro). We are currently very busy with stud work and A.I. Most of this work is currently done by David Aldington but it is now becoming too much for one vet to cope with so we would be keen to take on another vet with an interest and experience in stud work. We continue to be a progressive and pro-active practice, having introduced concepts such as health plans, free routine yard visits, half price visit days and premium / economy visits which have since been copied by neighbouring practices. Being the only 100% equine vet practice in Lancashire, We aim to offer a high quality service to all our clients. We aim to allow time for all horses to have a full health check and dental check at the time of annual vaccination and we operate a dental check reminder service. The practice currently consists of five vets (Two part time and three full time) and five support staff. Our current on call rota is one in four weeknights and one in four weekends. There is currently a demand from our clients for routine veterinary visits at weekends and we hope to carry out some routine calls on Saturdays with support of the new vet. We offer up to 5 days and £1000 of CPD per annum, four weeks holiday plus additional “rest days” after each weekend on call. We provide a mileage allowance for business mileage and an accommodation allowance. Salary consists of a basic annual salary plus a generous turnover related bonus. We are looking for vet with enough experience to be a key member of the team, with the ability to work-up medical and lameness cases to a reasonable level as well as to offer support and assistance to the more recently qualified vets with complex cases. We do not currently carry out general anaesthetics but we are considering offering this service in future with our continued expansion programme. Please contact our practice manager, Alison Younger, on 01254 888600 during office hours or e-mail ally@equine-vet.co.uk for further information |
