FACILITIES AT OUR GREAT HARWOOD SURGERY

Our premises at Great Harwood is less than 10 minutes from both the M65 and A59. we are easy to find and there is ample parking and turning for horseboxes and trailers. You are welcome to bring your horse to our premises for examinations, vaccinations or dental work by appointment in order to save a visit fee. We also have comprehensive facilities for visiting day patients and inpatients.

STABLING
We have ample stabling facilities for inpatients. The stables are recently constructed with soft floor matting and hygienic easy-clean surfaces.

LAMENESS EXAMINATIONS
Our surgery is located in a quiet location with plenty of space for trotting-up and an arena for lunging and riding.

X-RAYS
Our examination room has an open area for positioning horses for X-rays plus restraint stocks for minor surgical procedures, scanning and dental work. X-rays are developed using the automatic processor in the dark room on site.

SCANNING
The examination room contains restraint stocks specially constructed to allow safe and easy scanning for pregnancy and A.I. as well as removable side sections for tendon scanning.

ENDOSCOPY
The clinic now has a new endoscope system with video capability so we can record, store and e-mail images and video.

MOBILE FACILITIES

X-RAY
We have a high frequency portable X-ray machine and lightweight stand for radiographing horses at your premises if they are unable to attend our surgery.

SCANNING
We have a battery powered lightweight portable equine scanning unit for pregnancy scanning and A.I. work plus a larger scanner mainly used for tendon and musculo-skeletal scanning. Ultrasound images can be stored and e-mailed or printed off later.

LASER TREATMENT
We are equipped with a powerful Laser machine for treatment of wounds and soft tissue injuries.

SURGICAL PROCEDURES
We can carry out minor standing surgical procedures at Great Harwood and we are able to use operating theatre facilities for general anaesthetics should the need arise. We use the services of referral centres such as Leahurst (Liverpool University’s Equine Hospital) for cases requiring emergency surgery or intensive care such as acute colic.
