Aldington Equine Vets Ltd is a new veterinary practice for horses coveringPRE-PURCHASE EXAMINATIONS (VETTINGS)

PRE-PURCHASE EXAMINATIONS (VETTINGS)

We are able to carry out examination of horses prior to purchase throughout North West England. All examinations are conducted by experienced equine vets according to British Veterinary Association guidelines. A blood sample is taken at every vetting and a full report is issued. Horses can be brought in to our premises for examinations if suitable facilities (such as a long flat level area of hard surface for trotting-up) are not available where the horse is normally stabled.

TO ARRANGE A PRE-PURCHASE EXAMINATION

Please call us during office hours (8.30am to 5.30pm weekdays or 9am to 12pm Saturdays) or complete the contact form here to e-mail us. We will need the following information:

  • Your name, address and contact numbers
  • The name, address and contact numbers of the person selling the horse
  • The horse's name, breed / type, age, colour and height
  • The intended use of the horse once purchased
  • Any concerns or problems you found when you went to try the horse
  • The address of the premises where the examination will take place

If you have not had a horse examined prior to purchase before or you are not fully aware of what is and is not covered at the examination (or if you opt for a limited Stage 1 and 2 only examination), one of our vets will speak to you beforehand to answer any questions and explain the procedure to you.

We will provisionally arrange a suitable date and time for the examination. It is preferable for the buyer to attend if possible so that any findings can be pointed out directly and discussed at the time. We will contact the vendor to confirm the date and time with them and to check that suitable facilities are available, a rider is available, the horse's passport will be available for inspection and that we have permission for a blood sample to be taken.
