Talk About Cushings

“Talk About Cushing’s” is a national initiative to improve awareness and understanding of PPID in horses and ponies (Equine Cushing’s Disease).

The initiative is provided by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica in partnership with Redwings Horse Sanctuary, World Horse Welfare & the British Horse Society.

Now that we know the underlying cause in 80% of cases of laminitis is a hormonal imbalance such as Cushings disease, finding out it is present in your horse is an important first step.

This voucher can be redeemed at Aldington Vets against the cost blood testing for Equine Cushings disease, to the value of £15. The vouchers can be used for blood tests taken before the end of November 2011.

Club Together - Have a Free Visit

In November and Deccember if you can arrange five horses to have a visit at the same time - requiring treatment - we will come out to you without charging a visit.

If you are outside of 20 miles of the clinic a milage charge will apply (will be split between all the owners of the horses treated).

Strangles Vaccine Special Offer

As we reported in our last Newsletter, strangles vaccination is now available again. The practice is seeing more cases locally, and there is an increase in the disease nationwide.
With show and competition season and more young stock around at this time of year, it is now very important to think about the risk to your horse or yard, and to consider vaccination to protect against the disease.

We are currently running a special offer on new vaccination courses. For the initial course of vaccinations, two injections are required one month apart.
To continue immunity, boosters are then required at 3 or 6 monthly intervals depending on risk.

Our offer is "Buy one get one free" on the initial injections (excluding visit). This means those of you who already had your horses vaccinated against strangles before the vaccine was withdrawn will not lose out financially by restarting, as your horse would have required a booster if the vaccine was still available.
