WHEN WILL THE CHANGES HAPPEN?
Aldington Equine Vets was incorporated into North West Equine Vets on 1st December 2018. There will be a period of transition over the next few months while accounts and animal records are transferred to a new computer system. Most of the changes have already taken place but a few are scheduled to happen over the next few months (such as our new Zone Visits due to start in January).
WHO DO I CALL TO ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT?
Please ring the Martholme Surgery on the usual number 01254 888600. Our office team of Annabelle, Jackie and Cat will continue to answer the phones and deal with your queries as before. Our 24 hour emergency service will continue on the same number.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY HEALTH PLAN?
Earlier this year, we launched our new Care Plans and many of our clients have now updated from the old Bronze, Silver and Gold Health Plans onto the new Standard or Premium Care plans. If you’re still on one of our old plans, we need to upgrade you to one of our new plans. If you’re already on a new plan, we’ll need you change your payment arrangements.
If your on a Bronze, Silver or Gold Health Plan, you should have received some information on our new Care Plans so you can decide which one suits your horse’s needs best. Depending on how long you’ve had your existing health plan, you may not have used all the services you’re entitled to or you may have used more of the service than you’ve yet paid for, so we’ve calculated the balance of payments vs. services. If you're in credit on your plan, we will transfer the credit to North West Equine Vets to go towards your new Care Plan (or we can refund you directly if you prefer). If you're in debit on the plan, we will have sent you an invoice so you can clear any remaining balance with us.
You’ll need to cancel your current standing order to Aldington Equine Vets with your bank if you've not done so already. If you’d like to continue with one of the new plans, you need to fill out the Standing Order mandate form we sent to you with the Care Plan information and send it back to the address shown.
If you’re already on one of our new Care Plans, please make sure you've cancelled the standing order with your bank so no payments are made to Aldington Equine Vets, then complete the Direct Debit form we sent you so that your plan can be continued with North West Equine Vets.

HAVE ALL PRICES REMAINED THE SAME?
Our visit charges will remain unchanged (or be reduced in some cases). There will be some changes to other charges (up or down) but we’ve worked to make sure our fees remain competitive and represent good value for money.
WHERE DO I NEED TO TAKE MY HORSE FOR TREATMENT?
We continue to offer visits as before and our Martholme Surgery remains open for horses to come to us for treatment such as lameness investigation, X-rays and scanning. We now have additional new facilities at North West Equine Vets other surgeries including a fully equipped operating theatre at Rathmell Equine Clinic near Settle.
DO YOU STILL OFFER HALF PRICE VISITS AND FREE MONTHLY YARD VISITS?
Our Half Price Visit Day areas will change to Zone Visits from 1st January, which means visits will reduce to £15 (which is a minimum per client and cannot be split / shared) and become weekly instead of monthly.
Free monthly Routine Yard Visits to largery livery yards will continue as before. Visit dates for 2019 will be available in December.
DO YOU STILL COVER THE SAME AREAS?
Yes - we still cover exactly the same areas as before and we now have a larger team of vets covering a wider area (including North Lancashire, South Cumbria and parts of North Yorkshire). Visits charges have remained the same for the majority of clients and reduced for some clients.
DO YOU STILL HAVE THE SAME TEAM OF VETS?
David will continue to see horses as before. Our previous vets Chelsea and Milly have both moved on to new challenges but we've been joined by a new team of well respected and experienced equine vets.

Dr David Aldington BVSc MRCVS - David has been an equine vet in Lancashire since qualifying from Liverpool University in 1993 (Initially with Myerscough Vets at Clitheroe, then with Dalehead Vets and more recently with his own Practice based at Great Harwood. Some of our clients have had David as their vet for over 25 years continuously and during that time he's build a reputation as a dedicated and caring horse vet.
Dr Michael Bradley BVSc MRCVS - Michael has many years experience as an equine vet. He has a special interest in stud work and infectious diseases. He equally enjoys all aspects of equine work, particularly being out on the road visiting clients .
Dr Catherine Speakman BVetMed MRCVS BAEDT - Catherine has 14 years experience and a special interest in lameness investigation and treatment as well as further qualifications in equine dentistry
Clare Penter BVetMed MRCVS- Clare qualified from the Royal Veterinary College London in 2000 and has worked in mixed practice with an equine bias in both Cornwall and Australia. Clare is experienced in all aspects of routine veterinary work including field surgery, anaesthesia, radiography and dentistry.

WHAT NUMBER DO I CALL IN AN EMERGENCY?
We continue to offer a full 24 hour emergency service. Call our existing number 01254 888600. We now have at least two vets on call at any time. Emergency calls are taken by an answering service who can immediately contact the duty vet closest to your horse.
WHY ARE THE CHANGES HAPPENING?
The merger with North West Equine Vets has allowed us to expand our range of services. We now have a team of vets with a wealth of experience as well as new facilities and equipment. That means we can offer new services such as lameness investigations by highly experienced vets and operations carried out in a fully equipped operating theatre.
DO I STILL NEED TO PAY AT THE TIME?
Our payment terms will remain the same. Anything owing from before 1st December needs to be paid to Aldington Equine Vets (You can click the link on this website to pay online or call our Martholme Surgery on 01254 888600 to pay).
Payment for work done after 1st December will be due to North West Equine Vets. You can pay by cash, cheque or card at our Martholme Surgery or by card over the phone. We can't take online payments for North West Equine Vets at the moment. Please call our office if you’re at all unsure on how to go about paying.
