All foals must be microchipped and passported before the end of December in their year of birth (or by 6 months old if they are born after 1st June). Inserting a microchip can be quite stressful if the foal isn’t used to regular handling. In our experience, it can be much less stressful when foals are still young (and easier to restrain when they are still small), so we encourage anyone with foals to think ahead and arrange microchipping as soon as possible. Passporting can be done at the same time but if you wish to register with a particular society and haven’t got the paperwork through yet, it can always be done at a later date.
If your mare has a foal this year, why not book in microchipping whenever you next need a visit?
