Legislation requires us to make all clients aware of the following:
Our practice policy is to take payment at the time of treatment. We are aware that this is not always possible in certain situations such as when emergency treatment is required. Any clients defaulting on our credit terms will not be offered credit in future. We feel this is only fair to the majority of clients who pay in full at the time of treatment. If you are unable to comply with our credit terms for any reason or have any query you must contact us within the 14 day period.
SUPPLY OF MEDICINES
Vets can only legally prescribe POM-V (Prescription only medicines – Class V) medicines after a clinical examination of the horse for the condition being treated. We cannot supply POM-V medicines by telephone request to a horse unless we have examined it very recently for the condition being treated.
Our policy is to re-examine horses on long term medication at least every six months. Repeat prescriptions will only be offered if the horse has been examined in the preceding six months for the condition under treatment. The usual cost of such a re-examination is £24.00 (Excluding visit charge) but this may increase for prolonged examinations or investigation of any unrelated conditions.
In accordance with medicines regulations we offer prescriptions for any clients wishing to obtain POM-V medicines from another source. We provide fully itemized receipts for all medicines given and will inform you of the price of any medicines on request before prescribing.
We are required to examine passports whenever any medication is prescribed or administered and whenever a vaccination is given so please ensure your horse’s passport is available at the time of treatment.
Horse owners have a duty of care to protect their animals against illness and injury wherever it is practical. In light of this, we have a policy for all horses and ponies registered with us to be up to date with vaccinations for at least tetanus. We will endeavor to inform you when your horses’ vaccinations are due and we reserve the right to stop providing veterinary services to clients who knowingly allow tetanus vaccinations to lapse.
