At Aldington Equine Vets we consider routine preventive healthcare to be very important. This includes vaccination to protect against common diseases such as Equine Influenza, Tetanus, Strangles and Equine Herpes Virus.
All horses, ponies and donkeys should be vaccinated against tetanus. The vaccine is cheap and effective. Horse owners have a duty of care under welfare legislation to protect their horse against preventable diseases wherever possible. Tetanus is an extremely serious condition and often proves fatal. Because tetanus vaccination is cheap and effective is can be considered as an essential part of preventive healthcare. We believe in this so strongly that we insist all horses over 6 months old registered with our practice are kept fully up to date with tetanus protection.
Horses regularly attending shows or competitions and those kept on livery yards where they come in to contact with other horses regularly should also be protected against Equine Influenza.
Vaccination against Equine Herpes Virus is recommended for pregnant mares and horses can be vaccinated against strangles if they are at risk of contracting it. Our vets can offer advice on the best level of protection for each individual horse under our care.
All horses receiving a first vaccination or booster are given a veterinary health check which is included in the price. This includes: auscultation of the heart and lungs, a check of legs, feet and skin, assessment of weight using a weigh tape and a basic dental check. We will issue a written summary of your horse's health check if required.
We also offer a complimentary vaccination reminder service. If you miss the reminder card and your horse's vaccinations are about to go overdue, we will contact you by phone, text or email so you avoid the expense of having to restart a new vaccination course, we do not take any liability for missed vaccinations.
